Q.     What will we need to bring?

This destination is all about the outdoors, so bring warm clothes and shoes in winter. In summer, bring hiking boots and maybe a raincoat. If you plan on going fishing in summer, bring your fishing gear. We have snowshoes and icefishing gear for rent

Q.    What if we bring too few clothes?

We have warm socks, mittens, gloves and caps for sale in the giftshop. We also have some rental clothing and shoes , adult sizes. If you travel with children please make sure you bring all the clothes they will need. We also sell some basic hiking gear.

Q.     How do we get there?

The nearest airport is Kiruna. Make sure to book well in advance, especially if you plan to come during the winter season. If the flights are sold out, try Luleå, or Kittilä/Rovaniemi in Finland. Nearby Gällivare also has an airport. Kiruna and Gällivare has train stations. We do reommend a rental car, but going by bus is possible. Do check the timetable carefully at Länstrafiken Norrbotten. We also have private transfers from any airport. However we can not give you free or discounted transfers and we don't refund your stay if you miss the bus. We really recommend a rental car.

Q.     What about the area?

This is a destination for those who want to be close to the wilderness but still with easy access.

We are in Masugnsbyn, a village an hour from Kiruna. The Snow Cabin is located just off route 395

(moderate traffic)  but a huge forest starts right behind the house. The Snow Cottage is about 500 meters from

the road (a small private road leads to it from the village road).  If you meet anyone when you are hiking here, it's most likely a local, not a group of tourists. Good chances to spot the wildlife. No food shop or other amenities in the village, but only 15 minutes by car to a food shop.
